Season 3 Memoirs of Death, chapter: ROT (1930)
The road was slick with rain, and the visibility was poor. These are the nights when I always take someone, but this encounter didn’t happen as I planned. Lady Evelyn was driving for a long time, trying to make it home before nightfall. But as she rounded a bend in the road, she saw me standing on the side road waiting for someone else.
A car had spun out of control and was hurtling towards her at breakneck speed. She tried to swerve out of the way, but it was too late. The car slammed into her with a sickening crunch, and she felt her body being thrown forward with tremendous force.
She felt a searing pain in her chest, and she knew that something was wrong. She tried to move, but her body wouldn't respond. She was trapped, pinned in her car by the force of the impact.
And then, she heard the screams. They were coming from the other car, the one that had hit her. She tried to turn her head, to see what had happened, but she couldn't move. All she could do was listen to the screams, the sound of metal twisting and bending, the sound of glass shattering.
I intervened, and then, there was silence. The screams had stopped, and she knew that something terrible had happened. She tried to call out, to see if anyone was still alive, but her voice was weak and hoarse.
While I was walking away with my new friend, she heard the sound of sirens in the distance. Help was on the way, but she knew that it might be too late. She closed her eyes, trying to block out the pain and the fear, trying to hold on to the hope that she might survive.
