(S)eason 2 Memoirs of Death, chapter: Formula (1924)
“Thank you, Father, for all the things you have done. Without you and the Blue Lotus, I wouldn’t have seen the true dangers our world is running toward!” said the tall man with the mustache and hat.
“I am but a messenger, Lord Carnarvon. I’ve spoken to angels from beyond and I want to pass that message to the people I care about,” said Father Divine.
“I am not using that name, nor that title any longer, please. Not after what happened in Cairo.”
“Of course,” the Priest demured, “We all need to be wary of the Group.”
The man of the cloth hesitated before continuing. “How can you be so sure,” he asked of ex-Lord Carnarvon in hushed tones, “the Pale Man from the tomb was not behind the murder attempt in the hotel?”
“I am positive it was not him. The Pale Man gave me the medicine. I wouldn’t be here talking to you if it weren’t for him. It makes no sense to save my life one night only to send an assassin to kill me the next.”
“I, for one, am glad you managed to give that killer what he deserved,” the priest smiled, “The good Lord outlaws murder, but certainly not self-defense. And we are dealing with dark forces, indeed. We must be on the alert.”
“You are a good man, and a true friend, Father,” the former Lord smiled back at the priest, “ I want to help you achieve your mission.” He opened his palm quickly and glanced downward, the Priest doing the same.
“Inside this a vial is a… piece… of the medicine that changed my life forever. Don’t be afraid to use it in your preaching; it will certainly show your followers you have great and true power.”
The vial of dark red fluid quickly passed from one man to the other. Before secreting it away, Father Divine looked closely enough to see the piece of what looked like live meat floating inside.
“As another sort of scripture - far newer than the Eternal Book - once said: ‘There are more things in heaven and Earth, Horatio,’” the Priest nodded as he spoke, “If we are about to change the world, let us start by helping the people most in need. I will use this carefully.”
