Lesson 1 of 4: Learning Outcome

At the end of this lesson, the learner should be able to:
- Identify characteristics of a probability distribution.
- Calculate the mean, variance and expected value of a discrete probability distribution.
Lesson 2 of 4: Introduction to Discrete Probability Distribution (10mins)

What is a Discrete Probability Distribution?
Discrete Random Variable is one that takes on countable values.
Discrete Probability Distribution is a table that shows each value of random variable and its probability of occurrence.
Characteristics of a Discrete Probability Distribution
- The probability of a particular outcome is between 0 and 1 inclusive.
- The outcomes are mutually exclusive.
- Sum of the probabilities of the outcomes is equal to 1.

Knowledge Check

Since sum of probability is not 1, it is NOT a discrete probability distribution function.
