Winter in 2006 was cold, to begin with. Colder than ever. The chill was deep in her bones. On top of everything, the wind that night in Moscow made the cold bite deeper.
Penelope and Cleo had contacts all around the world, but the majority of them didn’t want to drift too far out of the shadows. They were afraid that the Group was still out there. They were convinced all they’d done so far was just small and non-essential pieces of the big picture.
She knew that Alexander was just a tool in the hands of the person behind everything - the Master, and she was determined to stop the killings once and for all, no matter how many people are involved.
All the leads she had gathered led to this apartment. After the detailed description she received from Maria, she was positive that she had even found the name of the person responsible for the killings.
It was crazy and brave at the same time, her father would never have approved of any of what she was doing. After all, she was a mother now. She needed to think about the family and not about the world, cults, conspiracies, serial killers, and ancient manuscripts or forces she didn’t quite understand. There were a lot of fears boiling inside of her at that moment. And what did she really think would happen once she got to that apartment door? Could she really just walk inside the Alexander apartment and kill him? Is this what she had become: a cold-blood killer?
