S1B4: FEEDBACK

From Memoirs o(f) Death, chapter: Feedback

The rain fell with a ferocious intensity that still seemed almost completely muted from the adrenaline. Glass, blood, and bone, all painted her shoulder as a piece of the door protruded through from behind. Though her vision was blurry, she tried to focus as she looked up, and saw the car overturned and mangled, at the bottom of the hill.

It had happened so fast. There was no way to stop it. The car slid from under itself, and skated across the road as though it were butter melting in a hot pan. The barrier only acted as a launching point as the car leaped and flipped over it on impact. And then... The fall.

It was at this moment reality washed back, and the sound of the world seemed to scream louder than it ever had. She was not alone. She began crawling to the car, praying for her friend's life. Screaming his name. Fighting her own pain. But it was too late.

She saw him, looking back at her, from the car. Blood dripped from his face and combed his hair downward. But his eyes... His eyes stared at her. Unmoving.

He was gone.

All the energy she had mustered flushed from her body, as she lowered her head to the dirt. The fight was gone, now. The pain too much. She surrendered to her final moment, as a soft, sure voice spoke to her. Not physically. Not something she heard. A voice she felt. A feeling that numbed the pain. Numbed the fear.

"It's time."
